Everyone has their own opinions on whether managing someone is leading someone, if managing is better then leading (and vice/versa) and some people just do not know the difference between the two, they see the two as one in the same.
I personally believe there is a very distinct difference in managing versus leading. Anyone can manage, whether they manage well or not is a question for debate but management is nothing more then one person being put in charge of another.
Leading is another story all together, not every manager is a leader. Even good managers may not be good leaders and they may have no desire to lead. A leader is not an official title, it is not seniority, it is not a placement higher in the company org chart then others. A leader is a state of mind on how you deal with others, your commitment to a company, your personal goals leaning to helping others as a means to help yourself. A leader can lead from any position of power, from a single contributor to a CEO, it is not defined by a title.
I will convey lessons I have learned over the years as well as specific information I have read that really made me develop my view of leadership.
